King Abdulaziz University carries the name of the establisher of Saudi Arabia- God bless him. This university was established in 1387 H / 1967 G as a national university aiming at spreading higher education in the western area of Saudi Arabia. . The university started its first year in (1388h- 1968g) by inaugurating the preparation study program with a few number of students( 68 male students and 30 female students,) and directly the year after, the university inaugurated its first college ( the College of Economics and Management,) then in the following year the college of Arts and Human Sciences was established.

The Royal Decree under the number (22042) in 10/05/1424 AH was issued to imply the approval of the resolution of the Council of Higher Education under the number (1/29/1424) in 17/03/1424 AH which implies the integration of the two campuses of King Muhammad Bin Saud University and King Abdul-Aziz University located in Medina into one independent university sited in Medina. In addition, The Royal Decree under the number 7/B/20047 in 19/04/ 1425 AH which implies labeling the nascent institute in Medina as (Taibah University).

The founder of the Kingdom, late King Abdulaziz has established peace, stability and security nationwide in accordance with Islamic Sharia laws. He has put an end to political unrest, tribal conflicts and statelessness caused by absence of a powerful central government. His sons followed suit have developed the country further, adding to its stability and security. They paved the way for tremendous cultural and technological achievements in all fields all over the Kingdom.

The Saudi Fund for Development was established by Royal Decree corresponding corresponding to 1/3/1975. As defined in its charter, the basic objectives of the fund are to participate in financing of development projects in developing countries through granting of loans to said countries and to encourage national non-crude-oil exports by providing finance and insurance in support of such exports

Teaching Sharia knowledge prevailed most regions in Saudi Arabia before opening up government-run schools and Sharia institutes. On September 10th 1974, a royal decree No. 50/m - based upon the cabinet resolution No. 1100 on September 4th 1974 - was issued to approve of the policy of Imam Mohammed bin Saud Islamic University. As such it is deemed a higher academic institution, comprising the higher institutes, colleges, and Sharia institutes in Saudi Arabia.

Shura (consultation) in Saudi Arabia has passed through several stages since the arrival of the late King Abdul-Aziz into Mecca in 1924. He called for the application of Shura at that early date. King Abdul-Aziz made Shura a foundation of his government in order to fulfill the divine order by applying Shariah (Islamic Jurisprudence) and Shura as parts of it. He intended to establish an Islamic Shura state applying Shariah as it is prescribed in the Qur'an and authentic Sunnah (deeds and teachings of Prophet Mohammad, peace be upon him).
